Community Funding Scheme 2009/2010

Skate Park

This page contains information about the Shire's Community Funding Scheme and how you can apply for grants.

There are three grant types; Quick Grants up to $500, Community Grants for amounts up to $10,000 and Development Grants for large scale projects over $10,000 or recurrent funding (yearly) up to and over $10,000.

You can apply for a Quick Grant at any time and the Shire releases one round of Community Grants and Development Grants each year.

If you intend to apply for a grant, you are strongly advised to read the guidelines for each grant category and to check that your project or service meets the Council’s stated eligibility criteria.

You must then contact the Shire’s Community Development Department on (08) 9191 0999 or email at cdo@sdwk.wa.gov.au to outline your project.

Applicants for the Development Grant category must also complete an expression of interest form (EOI) so that a preliminary eligibility assessment can be undertaken prior to embarking on the full application process.

Grant information packs for each funding category are available on the Shire’s website or from the Shire’s main administration office in Loch Street, Derby or at the Fitzroy Crossing administration centre on the corner of Forrest Road and the Great Northern Highway, Fitzroy Crossing.

Assistance to complete your grant application form can be provided if required.

Council's Funding Criteria:

  • Events, projects and services that provide a positive social return to the community in the areas of art and culture, education, sport and recreation, youth, seniors, health and welfare, tourism and ‘not for profit’ business development.

  • That services are accessible and affordable for the community.

  • That community cultural activities and services are encouraged to assist in building identity within the Shire.

  • That the grant money is distributed across a wide range of projects and services to ensure diversity of activities across the Shire and region.

  • Funds may be provided to community groups and organisations as an In-kind contribution towards venue hire for community events and services.

  • Projects and services which can demonstrate the involvement of volunteers.

  • Funds may be allocated for equipment purchase where there is evidence that such equipment is vital to the ongoing viability or the quality of the service/program offered.

  • Equity – The community should have a fair share of resources and equal opportunity, regardless of socio-economic status, gender, race, age, marital status, religion, political affiliation, social networks or ability.

  • To ensure disadvantaged groups enjoy equal access and special programs targeting their needs as required.
