Annual Budget
2009-2010
Last financial year saw the State and Federal governments provide infrastructure funding to stimulate the Australian economy to soften the impact of the global financial crisis. The Shire received a substantial allocation and with that shall fund numerous projects that would be unachievable otherwise. This windfall funding will continue for this year and the next financial year.
Major projects that are beneficiaries of the additional funding are: Covered Courts at Fitzroy Crossing, Change Rooms & Ablutions at the Fitzroy Crossing Recreation Precinct, Lytton Park Upgrade, Nicholson Square Fencing (Derby Oval), Derby Turf & Rodeo Club Sewer and Ablutions, Derby Memorial Swimming Pool upgrade, Derby Library Refurbishment and Derby Airport Reseal.
Council has also committed substantial funds for further major projects, such as Derby Memorial Swimming Pool upgrade, Derby Wharf Precinct and Derby Airport Reseal.
Roads and footpaths continue to be a priority for us, with approximately $3.4 million allocated for this financial year, more than double last year’s expenditure. This has allowed us to increase expenditure on both our rural gravel roads, town sealed roads and footpaths in both Derby and Fitzroy Crossing. The majority of road funding comes from grants. The 2009/2010 year will require strong fiscal financial responsibility to ensure that the balanced budget remains on track. Council is fortunate to have staff that are committed to this task.
I encourage you to contact Shire staff or Councillors if you require further details on the 2009/2010 budget.
