Technical & Development Services

The Development Services Section is located at Coleman House – 24 Loch Street, Derby, (the other side of the Agricultural Department Building across the road from Elders). This office houses the Manager of Environmental Health, Building and Ranger Services, Building Surveyors, Environmental Health Officers, a Shire Planner, Rangers, and a Customer Service Officer. This department handles all building, planning, environmental health, and ranger services.

The Development Services office is open from 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday to the general public.

Executive Manager Technical & Development Services

The Executive Manager of Technical and Development Services also resides in Coleman House with the Engineering Technical Officer. The Executive Manager of Technical and Development Services is ultimately responsible for the management of the two depots, road management and construction, and airport management as well as the management of the Development Services Department.

Technical and Development Services Organisational Structure

Derby & Fitzroy Crossing Depot

Derby and Fitzroy Crossing Depot – The Derby Depot is located on Millard Street in the industrial area of Derby. This is the base for all Derby based Works Crews; the Fitzroy Depot is located in Emanuel Way in Fitzroy.

Works Supervisor

Oversees Derby Depot and the Road Construction Crew.

Parks and Gardens Supervisor

Oversees the Derby “gardening” Crew.

Works Supervisor (Fitzroy)

Oversees the general running of the Fitzroy Depot and works in Fitzroy.

Mechanic

Based at Derby Depot and maintains all Shire of Derby/West Kimberley machinery.

Storeman

Based at Derby Depot and maintains the “store room” for the Depots and is also responsible for all goods ordered for the depot.

Derby Environs Crew

General maintenance around town mainly to do with gardens and parks i.e. mowing verges etc.

Derby Town Maintenance Crew

General maintenance mainly concerned with town roads.

Derby Central Area Crew

Maintain the Admin Building Botanical Gardens and environs.

Reticulation

Maintains the reticulation through out the Derby Shire.

Councils Roads Construction Works (“Bush Crew”) Crew (operate from the Derby Depot)

The bush crew goes out for most of the dry season to maintain the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley’s rural roads. The Bush Crew go out for two weeks and come in for every second weekend for the “Dry Season” Generally they are out from May to December and are housed in a self contained camp.

Fitzroy Town Crew

As with the Derby Depot they maintain the gardens, verges, roads and Parks and the Airport in Fitzroy. As it is only a small crew they become multi skilled in many areas.
