SHIRE OF DERBY/WEST KIMBERLEY ROAD CONDITION REPORT
Issued at 0800hrs, 30th April 2012


The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley advises that there may be water flowing over some Shire roads. 'DO NOT DRIVE INTO WATER OF UNKNOWN DEPTH AND VELOCITY'


Applicable to all Shire Roads -

  • 4x4 High clearance vehicles are recommended on all gravel roads.

  • Caution at Floodways and Creek Crossings

  • Caution is required when travelling on roads that are classified open


ROAD WORKS NOTICE
Effective Monday 30th April - 31 May 2012


Fairfield/Leopold Road between the Great Northern Highway and Tunnel Creek.

Gravel sheeting sections of the existing road.
Two-way traffic will be maintained where ever possible.
Road users passing through the works are requested to obey traffic management in place and exercise caution in the area.

CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC - (Water flowing over causeway)
RIVER CROSSING -
MYROODAH CROSSING (Fitzroy River)
CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC - (Water flowing over causeway)
RIVER CROSSING -
RUSS ROAD & YURABI ROAD. FITZROY CROSSING
CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC - (Water flowing over crossing)

ROADS -
Fairfield/Leopold Road
OPEN - Caution Required, High clearance 4WD vehicles recommended.
Caution - Road construction in progress between the Great Northern Highway and Tunnel Creek.
Noonkanbah Road OPEN - Caution, 4WD vehicles ONLY, river levels may rise rapidly.
Camballin Road OPEN - Caution Required, High clearance 4WD vehicles recommended.
Camballin/Myroodah Road OPEN - Caution Required, High clearance 4WD vehicles recommended.
Mt Anderson Road OPEN - Caution Required, High clearance 4WD vehicles recommended.
Yurabi Road, (Fitzroy Crossing) OPEN - Caution Required, High clearance 4WD vehicles recommended.
OTHER SHIRE GRAVEL ROADS OPEN - Caution Required, High clearance 4WD vehicles recommended, river levels may rise rapidly.

For information regarding access roads to stations, it is recommended that stations are contacted direct.


GREAT NORTHERN HIGHWAY / DERBY HIGHWAY AND THE GIBB RIVER ROAD, This is a MAIN ROADS WESTERN AUSTRALIA (MRWA) controlled road, updated road condition reports are available from the MRWA website: www.mainroads.wa.gov.au or phone 138 138 or during office hours on 08 9158 4333. - ENSURE TO CHECK ON THE MRWA ROAD CONDITION REPORT BEFORE ANY CONSIDERATION OF TRAVELLING ON THIS ROAD.

Travelling on a closed road

Travelling on a closed road is an offence under the Activities in Thoroughfares and Public Places and Trading Local Law 2003 section:

2.19 No driving on a closed thoroughfare
(1) A person shall not drive or take a vehicle on a closed thoroughfare unless -
a. That it is in accordance with any limits or exceptions specified in the order made under section 3.50 of the Local Government Act 1995; or
b. The person has first obtained a permit.
(2) In this clause - 'Closed thoroughfare' means a thoroughfare wholly or partially closed under section 3.50 or 3.50A of the Local Government Act 1995


SDWK recommends a maximum safe speed at any time of 80kph and drivers should travel in accordance with the road condition at all times. SDWK also recommends that all safety requirements and adequate water supplies should be carried in the vehicle in case of break down, bogging or delays.
