Council News - April 2005Shire CEO Announces Resignation27th April 2005 The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jonathan Throssell, today announced his resignation, which will become effective on 26th August 2005.
Mr Throssell will be taking up the position of Chief Executive Officer with the Shire of Mundaring on Monday 29th August 2005, on a five-year contract.
Mr Throssell has been the Chief Executive Officer at the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley since January 2001, following his initial appointment with the Shire as the Manager Administration & Regulatory Services in June 2000.
Apart from his work related activities in Derby, Mr Throssell has been an active community member, including being a member of the Holy Rosary School Board and an Australian Rules Football Umpire. He regularly officiated at the local WKFL games. Mr Throssell and his wife Justine have raised three children while in Derby; Taylor (3) and twin boys Flynn and Joshua (9 months).
Mr Throssell stated that his new appointment brought together a tremendous career opportunity and the ability to offer his family a lifestyle in the Perth Hills that he fondly remembers from his youth, having himself grown up in the Perth suburb of Kalamunda. He added that he and his family will greatly miss the community of Derby-West Kimberley and thanked all those who have made his tenure here enjoyable, especially Elsia Archer, the Shire President, all of the councillors he had worked with since 2000 and all Shire staff.
Cr Elsia Archer, in accepting Mr Throssell's resignation, stated that Mr Throssell had been appointed as the Shire's Chief Executive Officer at a tumultuous time yet had performed extremely well, bringing together a competent and professional senior management team and attracting quality staff to the Shire. Cr Archer also noted that since Mr Throssell's appointment the Shire had dramatically improved its performance in its financial management and organisational compliance, as well as its focus on customer service. She added she was very disappointed to see Mr Throssell depart, but recognized that the strength of the Shire Administration would allow it to continue serving the community while Council sought a new Chief Executive Officer.
Council will commence the process of finding a replacement for Mr Throssell shortly after the Shire elections on Saturday 7th May.
