After an intensive recruitment process with a strong field of candidates, Cr Archer announced that Council was extremely happy and united with its decision. “It has been a tremendously challenging process spanning some months however we are delighted with the decision and look forward to continued growth and development within our region with Shane by our side,” Cr Archer stated. “Shane’s skills, capability and community spirit will greatly assist in the Council’s future. Shane has done an outstanding job over the past six months while he has been Acting Chief Executive Officer and showed he was more than capable in the role,” Cr Archer continued.
Mr Burge and his family have been in Derby for more than 6 years, having held previous positions with the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley as Accountant and more recently as the Executive Manager, Corporate Services.
“Shane’s performance during his term as an Executive Manager was outstanding and he assisted Council in clearly identifying a strategic and financial plan for the future,” Cr Archer said. “We are extremely proud of our accomplishments over the past few years and have no doubt in Shane’s ability to lead the staff in delivering and implementing Council decisions.”
In accepting the position, Mr Burge said he said he was looking forward to the challenge of being the Chief Executive Officer and indicated he would continue to work closely with the Councillors, the community and staff to progress and develop the unique culture of our Shire. “The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley has enormous opportunities available to it and to be involved in cultivating some of these prospects makes me extremely excited about the future for the Shire and the region. “ Mr Burge said.
