Council News - May 2011$ 5000 EMERGING ARTIST AWARD INTRODUCED TO THE ANNUAL KIMBERLEY ART PRIZE 18th May 2011 Artists are once again being invited to enter the Annual Kimberley ART Prize. Entries close Thursday 30th of June.The Kimberley ART Prize is recognised as the longest running art award in regional Western Australia. This year is the 41st year the award has been facilitated in the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley. The prize pool this year has increased to $ 24 000.00 thanks to the generous support of our sponsors.
The competition is open to Established Artists, Emerging Artists and has a Youth Award category for 12 to 17 year olds. This year the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley has great pleasure in introducing the inaugural 'Woodside Emerging Artist Award' with a prize value of $ 5000.00. The Shire is looking forward to working with Woodside to encourage and support the emerging artists of the Kimberley. The ART prize is open to all bona fide residents of the Kimberley region. The 'Open non- Kimberley Award' is open to all residents of Australia. Entry forms are available to download below.

With an anticipated record number of entries, this year's Kimberley ART Prize is set to be the biggest and best yet. All are welcome to attend Opening Night on Saturday, July 9th from 6.30pm at the Derby Civic Centre Gallery, Loch Street, Derby. Entry is free and non-acquisitive artworks will be for sale. The Exhibition will be open from Sunday 10th July through to Thursday 14th July.
