Derby – Perth Jet Air Service

28th November 2006

The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley would like to congratulate OzJet on commencing the Derby - Perth Direct jet air service starting in February 2007.

It has been the vision of Council to see this service recommence since the last jet flights occurred in 1992.

Shire President Cr. Elsia Archer said "I would like to thank all people involved in negotiations particularly the executive staff employed by our Council,  Department of Planning and Infrastructure, Willie O'Neil, Chief Executive Officer OzJet and John Theodorsen of Thoeodorsen Consulting.  Without these people the service would never have recommenced."

Three years ago the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley held an air services summit which congregated all relevant parties throughout the Kimberley to investigate the possibility of getting the jet service started into Derby again. "The fact that this service is restarting after such a long break demonstrates Derby is still a hub for activity and I can't wait for the first flight," Cr. Archer continued.

The flights are scheduled three times per week and will return travellers to Perth by 12:30pm. "I urge all people to support the service.  We worked hard to reach this goal and keeping the service in operation is the next challenge," Cr. Archer concluded.

Awarding of Industrial and Marine Supply Base Facility Pre-Feasibility Contract

28th November 2006

The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is pleased to announce that GHD has been awarded the contract to conduct the pre-feasibility study into a Marine and Industrial Facility to be located in the West Kimberley.

"The primary focus of the pre-feasibility study is to determine the best location for a supply base to support the Browse Basin projects currently being investigated by companies such as Woodside, Inpex, Shell and Chevron," stated Mr John Pearson, Chief Executive Officer for the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley.  "GHD will be conducting a survey of all interested parties to ensure that any proposed location or facility designed best meets the needs of the industry and other users of the proposed facility."

A working party was formed by the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley to develop the idea of an industrial supply base approximately 6 months ago and since forming, has met on a number of occasions.  The terms of reference for the working party include identifying the most appropriate location and fully exploring the costs associated with any development. Ultimately any sites for such a facility will need to address the requirements of industry including the mining sector, business and government.  “The outcomes for this contract are expected to be delivered within 16 weeks,” Mr Pearson said.

Any further information regarding this project may be obtained by contacting John Pearson, Chief Executive Officer Shire of Derby/West Kimberley on (08) 9191 0999.
