Council News - November 2007SHIRE WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD1st November 2007 The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is ecstatic over winning the Partnership Category in the 2007 Economic Development Australia Awards which were announced at a dinner in Sydney on 31st October, 2007.
'This is the first time we have entered the Awards and the hard work by all parties to the partnership has paid off with national acknowledgement and beneficial exposure for the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley and OzJet,' said Shire President, Elsia Archer. 'Our entry highlighted the partnership with Ozjet Airlines and the extensive work which was undertaken by both the Shire and Ozjet to secure a direct air service between Perth and Derby which has stimulated economic as well as social development. A special thanks must go to the state government for their support in allowing the project to proceed, particularly the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure.'
Finalists and winners for the nine award categories came from 68 organisations across the nation and in a field of very impressive players, we can be rightly proud of our win. Cr. Archer concluded by saying that the Shire would continue to strive to be winners and this prestigious award is added incentive to do so. End John Pearson
