The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is considering a lease proposal involving two locations situated on the western end of the Derby Jetty (designated as “Areas 2 and 3”) The Shire is providing notice of the proposal and inviting submissions (as per Section 3.58 of the Local Government Act 1995). Submissions can be made prior to 4.30pm on Thursday 29th February 2024.

On Tuesday the 13th Feb, the water service will be lowered on Alfonsas Street, causing the street to be closed for most of the day and reopening on Wednesday the 14th Feb for normal traffic. It is hoped that the street reconstruction will commence in April, with work comprised of lowering of the surface of the road to get better drainage outcomes, along with kerbing and crossover installations. The Fitzroy Crossing oval will soon be lit up by new lights and technology thanks to State Government funding. The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley's Aboriginal Environmental Health team attended the Mowanjum Community Event on Monday the 29th January, where they were recognised for outstanding achievement in the community. The team had a blast at the event, which had food, games, music and a cultural performance called Junba. We had new members of the team that got to meet everyone in the community and the team had our new bouncing castle up for the kids to jump on. The afternoon was an opportunity for organisations to touch base with the community and start the year off. What a great event!

Citizen of the Year 2024 - announced! Last Friday at the Australia Day Breakfast at the Sporties, the Citizen of the Year awards were presented to outstanding citizens in our community.
