Thank you to our community, a message from the Shire President

With the easing of restrictions over the next few weeks, I wanted to reach out to the community to say thank you during these challenging times.

There have been so many changes over the past few months that have affected everyone in our community. Everyone has adapted well, our community spirit has shone and we, like the country around us, have shown that we are extremely resilient.

In these unprecedented times, our community has come together to keep everyone safe. We have been lucky enough to have zero confirmed cases across the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley so far. That is a credit to our community working together and following health advice.

I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone in the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley that has helped minimise the virus’ impact by staying at home and following physical distancing and health advice from the authorities.

Moving forward, we must not be complacent and we must continue to keep our community safe.

We must also support our local business during these difficult times and into the future. In just a matter of weeks, local business across the Shire have used their initiative and transformed how they operate and serve the community because of the current COVID-19 crisis.

While the upcoming arrival of tourists will provide a welcome financial boost, it is critical that we all be deliberate and considered in our efforts to buy local. Our business community needs your support more than ever.

The Shire Council is working closely with management to implement strategies and initiatives which support our community financially, socially and economically. The Community will be updated as these plans come into place.

Thank you again for your understanding, support and for looking out for each other.

Geoff Haerewa - Shire President
