150 excited community members gathered on Wednesday when Isaiah Firebrace came to town. The X Factor winner and Eurovision Song Contest Finalist engaged the audience and spread the message about being proud of your community and proud of who you are.

The community event was presented by the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley and supported by Marra Worra Worra, Mangkaja Arts, Wangki Radio, Fitzroy Valley District High School, Men’s Shed, Nindillingari and the RSAS Team.

Jimmy (Dillon) Andrews and Kristen Andrews started the night with a welcome to country and smoking ceremony. The community concert was presented by Dylan Storer, Hozaius Clare and Lenny Nalgood and Wangki Radio organised a live broadcast of the event.

Throughout the day, Isaiah held workshops with the students from Fitzroy Valley District High School and spoke about his journey and how he overcame diversity to reach his dream. As a leading Indigenous mentor, Isaiah shared his ‘no shame’ message with kids so they can follow their creative paths with confidence.

Special thank you goes to:

  • Jimmy (Dillon) Andrews and Kristen Andrews for welcome to country and smoking ceremony
  • Ronnie Jimbidie, Madonna Delmerri and the FVDHS School Band for their performances
  • Presenters – Dylan Storer, Hozaius Clare and Lenny Nalgood
  • Wangki Radio for live broadcast
  • And the organisations and community members who supported this great community event
