Information for Cat Owners
From November 2013, all cats that have reached 6 months of age are required to be sterilised, microchipped and registered. The Cat Registration Application Form can be found here.
Your cat will be required to wear a collar and registration tag to ensure they can be easily identified and returned to you if they become lost.
Being a responsible cat owner not only means looking after the health and welfare of your cat, but also means that your cat's activities are not being a nuisance to your neighbours and the local environment.
To promote responsible cat ownership the Shire encourages you to:
- Keep your cat confined to your property, especially at night, as this is when most issues will occur (Car accidents/cat fights etc.)
- To discourage hunting, place a collar on your cat with a bell or mirror attached.
- Vaccinate your cat.
- Make sure that there is a responsible person looking after your cat when you are away.

How many cats can you have on your property?
The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley's Health - Local Law permits residents to have 3 cats on their property.
