Council has proudly presented the inaugural President and Councillors Award to Wayne Neate, Director Infrastructure, in recognition of his extraordinary commitment and tireless efforts during the devastating flood emergency that severely impacted Fitzroy Crossing, Camballin, Derby and surrounding communities in January 2023.
Shire President Peter McCumstie presented the award, acknowledging Wayne’s critical role in leading the Shire’s response and recovery efforts in what was labelled “a once in a 100 year event”.
President Peter McCumstie expressed his gratitude to Wayne.
“Wayne’s dedication and leadership during this crisis made an enormous difference to the safety and wellbeing of our community. On behalf of a grateful Council, we thank him for his exceptional service,” he said.
In addition to the Shire’s recognition, Stephen Dawson, Minister for Emergency Services, praised Wayne’s leadership and professionalism in a direct letter that details his thanks and appreciation for Wayne during the response.
“From day one, Wayne was a constant source of information, intelligence and advice for DFES as they coordinated the response and then recovery efforts that followed. Wayne continued to play a crucial role in the State’s partnership with the Shire and his efforts were vital to supporting impacted communities through this historic disaster,” Minister Dawson said.
Wayne received the certificate at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 28 November 2024 as well as a plaque engraved on Kimberley colourstone as a token of Council’s appreciation.
