About the Design
This design portrays the largest reptile in the world, the saltwater crocodile, casually peering above the surface of the water with a brave little egret sitting on the back of his head. The elegant egret represents peace and connection to the land, sea and sky. The saltwater crocodile is a powerful and formidable Kimberley icon and holds great importance to the ecological balance. During the 1940s and early 1970s, these creatures suffered a major decline in population, almost to extinction, with unregulated commercial hunting. Since the 1970s saltwater crocodiles are a protected species. This design symbolises 'Respect for the land and its inhabitants'.
From the Artist
Having lived in the Kimberley for over 8 years, I have come to admire and appreciate its beauty and harshness in all its entirety; My work depicts a strong heartfelt connection with the milieu of the Kimberley and accepting all it has to offer... the culture, the weather, elements of nature, fine details, everychanging colours, hues, texture, and the overall harmonious beauty. Every season is a new palette of inspiration for me, and I enjoy finding ways to express my ideas and feelings through art, to give viewers an awareness of the Kimberley life.
