Why we collect your information
We collect your personal information to process your request or application, respond to enquiries or complaints, deliver services and programs, undertake compliance and regulatory functions, manage payments and accounts, and communicate with you about matters relevant to your dealings within the Shire. Without this information, we may be unable to provide the service or assess your application.
What we collect
Depending on the service, we may collect your name, address, contact details, property and rates information, application or submission content, records of interactions, and payment details where relevant. For some services we may also collect information about representatives, employees, contractors or related persons where needed to provide the service.
How we collect
We collect information directly from you through our forms, emails, phone calls, in-person interactions and online services. We may also receive information from third parties where authorised or required, for example other government agencies, contractors engaged by the Shire or where you authorise another person to act for you.
Legal Authority
We collect personal information as part of performing our statutory functions and activities in the public interest under applicable Western Australian legislation and local laws relevant to the service or application, including but not limited to Local Government Act 1995 associated Regulations and Shire local laws. Where a form relates to a specific function, the relevant law will be identified on that form.
Disclosure of your information
We disclose personal information only as needed to deliver the requested service, where required or authorised by law, or where permitted under the PRIS Act 2024. Recipients may include State or Federal public sector agencies, courts and tribunals, regulators, our contracted service providers and professional advisers, and other parties to whom we are legally required to provide information.
Overseas Disclosure
We do not ordinarily disclose personal information overseas. If an overseas disclosure is likely for a particular service, we will tell you in that form’s information.
Security and Retention
We protect personal information with appropriate administrative, technical and physical safeguards and retain it in accordance with the State Records Act 2000 requirements.
