MEDIA RELEASE
09 April 2024 For immediate release
The Shire of Derby West Kimberley is delighted with the announcement today by the Premier Roger Cook in regard to funding of $54 million dollars being made available immediately to commence work on replacing the existing Brooking Channel single lane bridge with a two lane bridge on the Great Northern Highway at Fitzroy Crossing.
Shire of Derby West Kimberley President said in response to the announcement “that the construction of this new two lane bridge is the right progression of works since the new two lane bridge over the Fitzroy River (Martuwarra)was finished late last year and we are looking forward to further future works to address the long term issues east of Fitzroy Crossing in regard to past and recent closures of the Great Northern Higway at Blue Bush and Two Mile creek crossings”.
“These developments and major works are very timely and will further enable us to build on the employment opportunities for the Fitzroy Valley Communities along with all contracting businesses in our Shire”, Mr McCumstie went on to say.
