About the Awards

The SDWK Citizen of the Year Awards celebrate the people, groups and community initiatives that make a positive and lasting contribution to the Shire of Derby/ West Kimberley.

The awards recognise people who contribute their time, skills, knowledge and energy to support others, bring people together and help make communities across our Shire stronger, more connected and caring places to live. We want to celebrate the people who contribute to the life of the Shire, whether they live in Derby, Fitzroy Crossing or one of the many communities and remote areas across the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley.

Award Categories

You can nominate someone whose contribution you have seen, experienced or heard about through the community. Tell us what they have done, the difference they have made and why you believe their contribution deserves to be recognised.

Whether it is through volunteering, their work within the community, supporting others, bringing people together, inspiring young people, contributing to community life or creating positive change, we want to hear about the people and groups who help make the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley a great place to live.

The four categories are:

  • SDWK Citizen of the Year
  • SDWK Senior Citizen of the Year
  • SDWK Young Citizen of the Year (Under 25)
  • SDWK Active Citizenship (Group or Event)

Nominations

Nominations open 25 September 2026 and close 11 November 2026.

When making a nomination, consider the contribution your nominee has made across their community and the Shire over the past 12 months. Tell us about their achievements, involvement and the difference they have made. We encourage you to provide a short explanation, including:

  • Who you are nominating
  • What they have done for the community
  • How their contribution reflects the award category
  • What difference or impact their contribution has made

Specific examples or a short story can help demonstrate why your nominee deserves recognition.
