Join us from 3pm on Saturday 18 September 2021 at the Derby Airport, when we can expect to see approximately 25 old planes from the Royal Aero Club of WA re-enact the first flight from Geraldton to Derby.

Shire President Geoff Haerewa said everyone is welcome to this historic event and to the official ceremony, from 4pm to 6pm, which includes canapés and drinks; a performance by the Mowanjum dancers; plaque unveiling and exhibition of the history of aviation in the Kimberley since the 1920s.

“The Shire is very pleased to sponsor $25,000 towards the Sunset over a Century commemorations, which is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so don’t miss the flight!,” Cr Haerewa said.

The commemoration flight honours the achievements of a great Western Australian, Sir Norman Brearley, who founded Western Australian Airways; and all early aviators and their crew; and the regional towns and stations involved in early years of the aviation industry.
