Youth Centre & Services

The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley has an ongoing commitment to working with young people, their families, government and community agencies to foster youth friendly communities that promote the health and wellbeing of young people.

To this end, the Shire considers itself to be both a provider and facilitator of youth services in Derby. Its primary services are provided through the Derby Youth Centre along with a number of recreational facilities such as basketball courts, swimming pool and the skate park which are also utilised by youth in the area. The Team Leader - Youth Services chairs the monthly Derby Youth Network meetings and is involved in collaborative work with stakeholders and partners.

Derby Youth Centre

The Youth Centre is located on Hardman Street and is open Monday – Friday 2:00pm – 6:00pm.

Our focus is on developing opportunities for innovative, safe, youth-oriented recreation, leisure and cultural activities.

We also offer help to young people with complex needs around issues such as drugs and alcohol, relationships, mental health and abuse. Youth workers can respond to individual crises and offer referral to relevant services.

The Youth Centre offers a comprehensive school holiday program as well as structured activities during term time such as sporting competitions, arts and crafts, music and healthy eating. The centre is equipped with a kitchen, skate park, basketball court, computers, pool table, table tennis table and video games.
