A community breakfast was hosted on Australia Day, bringing residents together following the recent post cyclone clean up efforts. Approximately 100 community members attended to enjoy time together and share a meal. The morning included a Citizenship Ceremony, where seven new Australian citizens were formally welcomed. We congratulate each of them on this significant milestone.
As part of the 2026 Australia Day program, the Shire recognised outstanding community contributions through the Citizen of the Year Awards. We extend our appreciation to all nominees for their dedication and service.
The 2026 award recipients are:
• Community Citizen of the Year: Denise Andrews
• Community Citizen of the Year (Youth): Joe Lloyd
• Community Citizen of the Year (Senior): Lindsay Le Lievre
• Active Citizenship Award (Community Organisation or Event): Derby Animal Welfare Group (DAWG)
Despite the challenges of the weekend, it was encouraging to see our community come together with resilience, pride and connection. The vent provided a meaningful opportunity to acknowledge contributions across our community and reflect on what unites us.
