Big news for the West Kimberley! 👇

President Peter McCumstie and our CEO Tamara Clarkson attended the 2026/27 State Budget Sundowner in Broome over the weekend! They heard from Premier Roger Cook, Minister for Regional Development and Kimberley Stephen Dawson , together with Member for the Kimberley Divina D’Anna about what the new State Budget delivers for our region.

Through this Budget, the State Government is investing to deliver a strong economy and local jobs, housing and cost of living relief and stronger more inclusive communities for us here in the Kimberley.

Here’s just some of State Budget highlights impacting us in the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley:

✅ $83.2 million for Great Northern Highway flood resilience works (Fitzroy to Gogo), improving safety and connectivity

✅ $30 million to maintain and strengthen power reliability across the West Kimberley

✅ $5.5 million for KidSport, including $300 vouchers to help local kids get involved in sport

✅ $50 million boost to regional housing + $127M for remote community housing, infrastructure and essential services

✅ $41 million to extend the Kimberley Juvenile Justice Strategy, supporting at-risk youth and building safer communities

There is a big focus on long-term investment in our region - supporting families, strengthening communities and creating real local opportunities. We are a welcoming community with opportunities to thrive and looking forward with a positive outlook to the new financial year ahead!
