The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley proudly commemorated ANZAC Day across our communities, with heartfelt services held in both Fitzroy Crossing and Derby.
Fitzroy Crossing Service
More than 80 people gathered in Fitzroy Crossing to honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed for our country. The service opened with a Welcome to Country by Bullen Rogers, followed by a moving bugle performance from Sergeant Elliot Money of NORFORCE, setting a respectful tone for the morning.
We were proud to have Fitzroy Crossing Police in attendance, along with former servicemen who took part in the flag-raising ceremony. A special thank you to Fitzroy Crossing Helicopters for their generous support, with the helicopter flyover providing a powerful and memorable moment for those gathered.
The strong turnout reflected the deep significance of ANZAC Day within the Fitzroy Crossing community as we came together to reflect, remember, and pay our respects. Thank you to all volunteers who assisted on the day. The service concluded with tea, coffee, and a shared community breakfast.
Derby Dawn Service
On Saturday, 25 April, over 150 community members gathered at the Derby War Memorial at dawn to honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of our ANZACs. From first light through to the final moments of reflection, we remembered those who served, those who continue to serve, and the enduring legacy they leave behind.
A special thank you to NORFORCE, Royal Australian Air Force, WA Police, Buckley’s Earthworks & Paving, and Paul White for your invaluable support in making the march and service possible. A community breakfast was also held following the service, providing an opportunity for attendees to come together in reflection.
