Shire of Derby/West Kimberley acknowledges the decision of the Court of Disputed Returns in relation to the October 2025 Local Government Election, following an invalidity complaint lodged by the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC).
The Court has determined that amendments are required to the election outcome previously declared. The Shire accepts the Court’s determination and will give effect to the revised declarations in accordance with the Court’s orders under the Local Government Act 1995 (WA) and associated regulations.
The Shire remains committed to the integrity of the democratic process and extends its sincere thanks to the community for their strong participation in the 2025 election, which recorded historically high levels of voter engagement.
The Shire engaged the WAEC to conduct the election on its behalf. While it is disappointing that eligibility matters resulted in the initial outcome being overturned, the Shire welcomes the resolution of the matter through the appropriate judicial process and the certainty now provided by the Court’s decision.
It is acknowledged that all candidates nominated for election in good faith. The Shire thanks Mr Money for his commitment to Council and for his service to the Derby and West Kimberley community during his period of office.
The Shire looks forward to welcoming Mr Lachie Carracher to Council and working collaboratively with all elected members in continuing to provide effective leadership, stable governance and informed, responsible decision‑making for the district.
The Shire’s focus remains firmly on progressing priorities for and with the community, strengthening governance and supporting Derby / West Kimberley as a welcoming community with opportunities to thrive.
