For Immediate Release

Wednesday 26 August 2026

Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is aware of recent commentary on social media regarding Shire services, in particular comments directed towards Shire Rangers and other staff working in the community.

The Shire recognises that there may be concerns or frustrations and respects the community’s right to express views and ask questions regarding Shire services and operations. The Shire values feedback and open, constructive discussions with our community.

However, the Shire is concerned with some of the personal and derogatory commentary directed towards Shire employees. In many instances, these comments are offensive, degrading and have a growing impact on our staff. Our employees live and work in our community delivering essential services and have the right to perform these duties in a safe and respectful workplace.

The Shire supports responsible dog ownership and encourages residents to report concerns about roaming, unrestrained or nuisance dogs. These reports help Rangers identify issues within the community and respond where action is required.

We encourage community members with concerns about Shire services or decisions to raise them directly with the Shire through the appropriate channels listed on our website. This ensures your concern is appropriately logged, recorded and responded to by our staff members. The Shire asks that all feedback and conduct remains respectful and focused on the issue being raised.
