Derby Civic Centre is set to benefit from important infrastructure improvements, thanks to a Lotterywest grant announced today.

The project will deliver the installation of air-conditioning, roof replacement and targeted building maintenance to improve accessibility and ensure compliance with current standards.

Today, Member for Kimberley Divina D’Anna MLA, presented the official grant certificate to the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley, marking the formal commencement of the project and reinforcing the commitment to improved community infrastructure within the Shire.

The upgrade will significantly improve comfort for users of the Civic Centre, particularly during periods of extreme heat, while also ensuring the facility remains accessible, safe, and welcoming for all members of the community.

Divina D’Anna said, “This funding is a significant investment in Derby’s community infrastructure and will help ensure the Civic Centre remains a safe, comfortable and inclusive space for everyone. It’s great to see Lotterywest supporting these important upgrades, which will benefit local residents and help keep this important facility functional and welcoming for all who use it.”

Shire of Derby/West Kimberley President, Peter McCumstie, welcomed the funding. “This investment allows us to deliver practical and much-needed improvements to the Derby Civic Centre. These works will enhance the functionality of the building and ensure it continues to serve our community now and into the future.”

A tender for the works will be considered at the June Ordinary Council Meeting, with construction expected to begin in late 2026. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to building users, with updates provided throughout the project.

The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley extends its sincere thanks to Lotterywest for its continued support in creating lasting, positive change in regional communities.
