Due to the forecast of significant rainfall across the Kimberley Region, Shire of Derby/West Kimberley urges road users to reconsider their travel plans.
Significant rainfall is likely to impact road conditions and may result in road closures, limiting access to several Kimberley national parks, campgrounds and Communities. From Sunday 17 May 2026 to Tuesday 19 May 2026, rain across the West Kimberley will potentially limit access to areas of the Shire. Please also note that the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has placed warnings if you are planning to visit the following parks within our Shire, Bandilngan (Windjana Gorge), Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek), and Walaraa mindi (Mount Hart).
Please note road conditions may change quickly and isolated showers may make roads impassable in a very short time frame – the Shire will try and provide updates as these events occur - please visit our website for the latest road conditions https://www.sdwk.wa.gov.au/explore/road-conditions.aspx
